Technology Competition
Another brainstorm... seeking feedback
How about holding a national competition to produce certain technologies, such as sustainable water pumps; wind, water or solar power generators, etc. The participants would be college and university students, and the reward would be an opportunity to mass produce their inventions for use throughout the country. This way we can build capacity and produce technology locally that can be used in community development projects that we are involved in throughout the country.
We could hold a similar competition for business development, perhaps around the different technologies.
Thoughts? Please???

Great idea. I worked on a similar project in Kenya- they were calling it appropriate technology then, not sure now. I also particiapted in another project where local best practices in biodiversity and seed conservation were tackled. Very very interesting cases came up. Please browse this site for details

I am familiar with the appropriate technology concept, there is a center for this technology outside of Kampala which i have visited. What i am thinking of is similar but perhaps more advanced. I was thinking, for example, a competition to produce a community water pump. Perhaps run by solar power, perhaps large enough to supply a continuous flow of water to several families. Water is something that would be one of the basic needs, and a need for such a pump would be significant. I am thinking it would be preferable if it were purchasable from within the country rather than imported from Europe or the US.

I'm Helena Julio from Ecuador,I want to talk good about Mr Pedro on this topic.
Mr Pedro and his loan company gives me financial support when all bank in my city turned down my request to grant me a loan of 500,000.00 USD, I tried all i could to get a loan from my banks here in Ecuador but they all turned me down because my credit was low but with god grace I came to know about Mr Pedro on a loan platform so I decided to give a try to apply for the loan. With God willing they granted me a loan of 500,000.00 USD. The loan request that my banks here in Ecuador have turned me down for, it was really awesome doing business with them and my business is going well now.
